SOUNDBITE: (ENGLISH) SIMON MULONGO, DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION (DSRCC) FOR SOMALIA
“As we transition, in terms of transferring responsibility to the Somalis, the Police has done so well to the extent that they have put up infrastructure to support the Somali Police Force, by building (with support from outside of course), some police stations. Secondly in mentoring, they do a lot of extensive work in mentoring, building capacity through training the Somali Police Force. And to this extent really, the police force of Somalia is shaping up”.

“We look forward to taking on the second formed unit, and preparation is underway to ensure that we can take up that deployment of a second formed unit, after acquiring the necessary equipment. And we are maintaining the equipment we have here so that we can fill up that gap. Otherwise, the IPOs are up to the task”.
