Online shopping has become increasingly popular in recent years but unfortunately so has hacking.
Thankfully there are ways to protect yourself from cyber attacks and protect your personal information.
Never do online shopping while using a public wifi network, either wait until you’re home or use your phone network.
Public wifi networks are less secure than private ones and popular with hackers.
A very common scam is to impersonate a popular online retailer and send out fake emails containing malware.
Experts say that if the offer in the email looks too good to be true it probably is.
You should delete these emails immediately and leave them unopened.
Apple, Netflix, Paypal, and eBay are the most common brands used in these fake emails.
Be careful what online retailers you give your card details to and if possible, keep a list of the websites that have your details.
If you don’t use the website often or it’s a one-time purchase your information doesn’t need to be saved.
Credit cards are better to use for online shopping than debit cards as they’re better protected for fraudulent activity.
Services like Paypal are also good to use as you don’t need to enter your bank details to make purchases on different websites
