Liberian art features lots of wood carvings of faces, scenes of everyday life, and accessories like wooden combs, spoons and forks that are often part sculpture. Lizards are popular subjects of Liberian art because they represent wisdom.
Liberian sculptures are heavily influenced by ancient history, tribal folklore and spirituality and is often stylized. That means that although the subject matter is recognizable, it is more symbolic than realistic.
